Insects as spider food

Bird spiders are kept in several terrariums. Topinsect insects are often the ideal variety with live insects.

All spiders are carnivorous (meat-eater) and are specialised predators which live from live preys. Most species remain small and feed themselves on insects, but larger species are known to catch everything which is not to big, such as small rodents, birds and small reptiles. Species like the raft spider and the waterspider even catch their preys under water. The family of the spider eaters (Mimetidae) consists of spiders who hunt other spider species.

Research showed that all British spiders (not bird spiders, but still Ö) eat annually as much kilos of insects as the whole British populationís weight.
